Damn. We've had a lot of people over the years keep saying that our software looks childish and the icons are distracting. We are hoping the black and white will give a cleaner look and allow people to focus on their work more. We might add the color icons back as an option if more people ask.
We've added a poll. Click "No".

I really dislike it - looks bland and depressing:-( and makes the whole UI harder to navigate when things are all the same flat colour.

Perhaps we need something in the middle. What does everybody suggest. It's so hard to make everybody happy but we don't want people to hate it.

Below is a screenshot from Anime Studio. They have a mix of soft grey tones as default but the colour style can be altered by the user to suit what they prefer. I like having the splash of colour in the colour palette to help break things up for the eye. Cheers d.k

They've done their icons in black and white rather that with opacity. I don't feel like it's any better. We won't be adding a palette to the interface any time soon. We're aiming for this sort of thing: Anybody else want to post some user interface ideas. We'll see how we can tweek things.

We've added a few color accents to the icons. What do you all think? We don't really want to keep messing with the icons, so are we getting any closer?

Maybe unclutter the top bar would help too, for example group 'images' into a drop down, the same with 'video' and also the drawing tools.

The top bar - You have video, youtube, vimeo etc all as separate icons. The same with images, image grid etc. Would look much 'cleaner' if these were grouped into a single icon drop down. The same for the drawing tools.

Maybe make the icons a bit smaller too (if they were grouped) - like photoshop.
Of course these are just my preferences:-)
Also, how about having view panes options? That way the user could select which panes to have in view (drawing, images etc) based on what they use most. For example I very rarely use any drawing tools so would like to hide it, placing more focus on the tools I do use regularly.

I'm still lost sorry. There is a drop down already. If there is not enough room, then only the tools you use are in the toolbar. Make the icons smaller by right clicking the icons or in preferences.

I'm not sure how differently I can explain it:-) All the icons in the top bar - group them according to what they are associated with. So,all video elements, all image elements, all drawing elements. Does that make sense?
